Welcome to SET

UC San Diego has implemented a new student evaluation form called the Student Evaluation of Teaching (SET) form. The new form replaces CAPEs in undergraduate courses and the graduate evaluation forms in graduate courses.

The goals of this new form are

  1. to help evaluate and provide feedback to instructors
  2. to provide data to students on how to select instructors and courses

The campus relies heavily on student input to evaluate teaching effectiveness- the student voice is a crucial data point. The SET form is intended to fulfill the dual purposes of providing information to students to help them choose what classes to take, and providing information from students to help evaluate an instructor’s teaching.

With this form, students have the opportunity to:

  • Commend the instructor on the instructional techniques and performance areas that enhanced the learning experience
  • Critique techniques or performance areas that could be better
  • Provide constructive feedback that may possibly enhance instruction in future quarters

Students may submit an evaluation once for each person they are evaluating. Once submitted, evaluation responses are stored in a database with no connection to the person who submitted them. All information provided is confidential and is not associated with student names or student IDs.
